ARTS QUARTER LOFTS 10 East 26th Street, Minneapolis This new development is about as close to the New Urbanism ideal as is possible. It is located on an authentic historic streetcar corner—now enjoying frequent bus service into Downtown—so the New Urbanist lofts-above-shops design formula is actually plausible at this location, compared to the simulated old-fashioned districts that are common in the suburbs. Moreover, because of the nearby Art Institute and College of Art and Design, and the Black Forest restaurant just across the street, this is as genuinely Bohemian/Left Bank an area as can be found in the Upper Midwest. The recent proliferation of ethnic restaurant along Nicollet, "Eat Street," only reinforces the overall sense that this is indeed a "Quarter." The lofts themselves are spacious, with large windows and balconies. The feeling of openness in living units is enhanced by a Great Room plan and high ceilings.
