THE FALLS / THE PINNACLE 110 First Avenue NE / 20 2nd Street NE These side-by-side towers were a part of Riverplace, a buoyant, large-scale redevelopment of the East Bank along Main Street undertaken a generation ago. When its signature festival marketplace element faded as a retail draw, many people may have thought that the development was a failure. But definitely not so, because this once-run-down area attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in investments, gaining hundreds of units of new housing (and commercial office space) in the process. Indeed, Riverplace served as an anchor for the revitalization of the East Hennepin retail district, attracting more new and rehabilitated housing nearby, like Calumet Lofts and Marquette Townhomes. Indeed, a thriving new neighborhood was established, as demonstrated by a new Lund's grocery store, just like Uptown and 50th and France. The Falls and The Pinnacle are the most prominent Riverplace housing, dramatically overlooking the Hennepin approach across Nicollet Island. The abstractly terraced Falls provides 87 condos and six townhouses, many with distinctive diagonal floor plans. The 25-story Pinnacle provides 170 condos, which are somewhat larger in floor area and somewhat more expensive.
