Summit House

SUMMIT HOUSE 400-410 Groveland Avenue Constructed in 1966-1967, this twin-tower property was among the city's earliest upper-market housing in the postwar era. As high rises, on a hill overlooking Downtown, Summit House was certainly the most prominent. Its immediate neighborhood was filled with turn-of-the-century mansions originally built for Minneapolis business and civic leaders, some of which still remain as conversions. The area is replete with architectural and cultural landmarks, notably St. Mark's and Hennepin Avenue Methodist. Despite many changes over the years, there is still a palpably tony feel to this area. The Summit House towers themselves have aged well. The living units, gracious by 1960s standards, now seem modest in size, compared to recent over-scaled residential developments. But since people have not physically changed over the past generation, these apartments are as humanely scaled now as they were when opened.
