Maple Grove

Maple Grove has experienced tremendous, but steady, population growth since the 1970s due in part to improvements to the roadways that serve the city, including Highway 169 and interstates 94, 494 and 694. But roads aren’t the only reason why Money magazine recently ranked it as the second-best place to live. Though population increases have been noteworthy, you don’t get the feel when you’re in the city that it’s cramped or that people are living one on top of the other. Multi-family developments have been common in Maple Grove in recent years, as people flock to a city that offers easy access to pretty much anywhere – particularly west toward Greater Minnesota and east toward the Twin Cities – while still retaining the small-town vibe that belies the fact it’s among the state’s biggest cities. Maple Grove planners have stressed the importance of green and natural areas, and those elements also are parts of the city’s two downtown areas – Main Street and Arbor Lakes. The latter is a relatively recent construction, what amounts to a charming outdoor mall that is highly walkable and includes hundreds of businesses ranging from national chains to one-of-a-kind local shops.
