Highland Park

The Highland Park neighborhood is in the southwestern corner of St. Paul and is partially bounded on three sides by the Mississippi River and the associated Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. While the north side of the neighborhood opens up into the city, Highland Park’s geography is likely one of the reasons it has its own distinct feel. Located just across the water from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Highland Park experienced a population boom in the 1920s with the arrival of a Ford Motor Company assembly plant. The neighborhood has an abundance of single-family homes as a result, with clusters of apartments and condominiums in certain parts. The Village shopping district, which is on Ford Parkway, features a wide variety of retail and restaurant options, while St. Catherine University is on the neighborhood’s north side. Highland Park also is home to a park of the same name that includes two golf courses, an aquatic center, and plenty of room for families to spread out and have a picnic.
