WINSLOW HOUSE 100 2nd Street SE The 58-unit Winslow House was a pioneer in two ways. One is its early date, opening in 1980. The other is that it is serious architecture, designed by a national figure, Benjamin Thompson, who happened to grow up in St. Paul. Just before and after this project, Thompson was designing the famous Rouse Company festival marketplaces in Boston, Baltimore, and Miami. Winslow House was (and remains) a superior property and it set a high architectural benchmark early in the revitalization of the Mississippi Riverfront. So in an important respect, the generally high architectural quality of subsequent riverfront development owns much to this seminal building. Living units are nicely laid out, with panoramic views of the Falls area, and the downtown skyline beyond. Winslow House is centrally located on the Main Street East Bank, near restaurants like Kikugawa and Nicollet Island Inn, with the new Lunds just blocks away.
