What is now called St. Anthony West was in existence for more than two decades before the west-bank city of Minneapolis and east-bank town of St. Anthony were unified in 1872, Unsurprisingly, given its long history, this tidy, unpretentious neighborhood, of a kind that was once called "blue-collar," has experienced several changes in physical character since its initial settlement, most recently, following a public renewal project in the 1960s.
